Toyota is a global leader in the auto industry and there is no parallel to its might. The company has announced an all-new BZ3, an EV sedan. Though the company’s philosophy is inclined toward PHEV and Hydrogen technologies, it’s slowly but steadily progressing and transitioning itself to the new market trends and demands.
Toyota’s all-new BZ3 sedan
Toyota is also said to be leading the race to find that holy grail of the battery technology called solid-state batteries. The company has made significant progress in the field and solid-state batteries. The company is currently under the trial testing phase of some solid-state battery test vehicles. As of now, the all-new BZ3 is not going to be powered by solid-state batteries.
The first fully electric vehicle by the company on the E-TNGA platform is the bZ4X compact SUV. The automaker actually already started delivering the new model, however, there’s now a global delay to the launch of the electric crossover due to a recall for some wheel-mounting concerns. The new sedan is expected to be launched in Asian and European markets first and the likely availability of the car is expected to be around 2024.
The primary market for the sedan is China and south Asian countries like India where the EV market is rising exponentially. The second market choice is Europe and finally, it shall be rolled out to the rest of the world.
All new BZ3 to rival Tesla Model 3
It was unheard of and unthinkable when Tesla revolutionized the entire industry by launching the first all-electric commercially available car in the US. Tesla became a threat to traditional automakers all across the globe.
Teslas become so viable and successful that it shook the entire industry, and it became the most valuable automaker in the world within a short period of time surpassing decades-old giant automakers. Many more and almost all are in a run to hunt down Tesla. The likes of Hyundai and Volkswagen are planning similar products in the Chinese market and other places to rival Tesla.
So whenever a new car from any automaker is launched it always has competition aimed at one of the models of Tesla by default. In the same way, this all-new sedan is positioned against Tesla Model 3.
Toyota BZ3 battery
As mentioned earlier the company is leading the race to develop an all-new solid-state battery. The technology is not ripe yet to be used in the upcoming sedan. Toyota has a partnership with BYD the Chinese EV and automaker, the car is expected to deploy BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate battery tech. The battery tech is reported to have a high energy density while being safer than other chemistries. With energy-dense batteries, the battery pack can be smaller, which allows for more interior space.
Toyota BZ3 variants and specifications
The tentative specification and variant according to power capacity are known as of now. The car will be available with two powertrains making either 178 or 238 bhp. The EV will weigh 1710-1840 kg and have a top speed limited to 99 mph. Talking about the size of the car, it will be sized similar to that of the Corolla.
In order to capture some of Tesla’s growing market share in China and Europe, the Japanese automaker is ready to bring its fully electric sedan to market.
